How long does an order take to ship?
Preset colour and scent combinations are kept in stock and leave the workshop in two to three business days. Special orders are poured when you place them — about a week for candles, melters and smaller pieces, and about three weeks for a fire pit, because the cement has to cure fully before it can be filled and shipped.
Will my vessel look exactly like the photograph?
No — and that is the point. Colour is folded into wet cement and left to move on its own, so every pattern is unique. Expect the same general palette and character as the photograph, not the same marbling. Colour can vary slightly.
What is the wick made of?
Most vessels use a natural cedar wooden wick, which gives a soft crackle as it burns. The smaller skull vessels use a cotton wick, which suits their narrower opening.
What wax do you use?
All-natural soy, blended with fragrance oil at the highest load the wax will carry cleanly. No paraffin, no dyes in the wax itself, no phthalates, no known carcinogens.
Can I choose a colour and scent that isn't listed together?
Yes. Any scent in the library can be poured into any colourway — choose Special order and tell us the pairing you'd like. There is no extra charge for it; the only difference is the wait, because each one is hand-poured when you order it. Allow about a week for a candle or melter, and about three weeks for a fire pit.
How should I burn a candle the first time?
Let the melt pool reach the full width and length of the vessel before you put it out — usually two to three hours. Soy has a memory, and a first burn that stops short will tunnel for the rest of its life. This one is about the candles: fire pits burn fuel rather than wax and need no breaking in.
How does a fire pit work?
Our fire pits are user friendly. Each one has a stainless steel sleeve inside the vessel: simply remove the lid, pour 91% (or higher) rubbing alcohol into the sleeve, and ignite. No wick, wood or other incendiary is needed. Filling the sleeve to about an inch from the top gives approximately one hour of burn time. To extinguish the flame, simply place the lid on top of the vessel — never use water. To reignite, relight with a match or lighter. Detailed instructions come with every fire pit vessel.
Are the fire pits safe indoors?
Yes, under supervision and with the correct fuel. Each one includes a removable stainless steel sleeve that keeps fuel away from the cement vessel, a cork base to protect your furniture, and one unit of fuel to start. A full fill burns for approximately an hour.
Is it safe for s'mores?
Yes — as long as you are burning 91% isopropyl alcohol or higher. That is the fuel the fire pits are built around, and it burns clean enough to toast over. Keep the pit on a level surface and always monitor the vessel while lit.
Can I put the vessel in the dishwasher?
No. The sealant is water-resistant, not waterproof. Wash by hand in warm water with a little dish soap and dry it fully.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Not at present. Cement is heavy and we would rather not quote a shipping price that costs more than the candle.
